On May 14-16, 2009 in the frameworks of the Second International decade of indigenous peoples in Russia the City of Petrozavodsk (the Republic of Karelia) hosts the XXV International scientific conference for students on Finno-Ugric studies IFUSCO.
The goal of the Conference – activation of scientific-research work in institutions of higher education of Finno-Ugric countries and regions of Russian Federation, involvement of members of youth Finno-Ugric organizations, students to active participation in social activity.
The main organizers of the Conference are the Government of the Republic of Karelia, the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations, Petrozavodsk State University, Karelian State Pedagogical University, Karelian youth non-governmental organization “Trias”, Republican youth non-governmental organization “Nuori Karjala” (“Young Karelia”), Karelian regional non-governmental organization
“Community of nations of Karelia”.
Students and graduate-students interested in the issues of Finno-Ugric studies are invited to participate in the Conference. The Forum program includes plenary sessions, section work, excursions, visit to Karelian (Veps) village, meetings with community representatives.
Quota for Conference participants:
– Hungary, Finland, Estonia – up to 10 representatives from each country,
– Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Germany – up to 3 representatives from each country,
– Republics of Komi, Mari El, Mordovia, Udmurtia – up to 10 representatives from each region,
– Khanty-Mansiysk region, Yamal-Nenets region, Leningrad region, Vologda region, Tver region, Murmansk region, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg – up to 5 representatives of the region.
Working languages of the conference: Russian, Finnish, English and native languages of Finno-Ugric nations.

Section II. Finno-Ugric world: Traditions. Folklore. Ethnography.
Section III. Finno-Ugric nations: History. Sociology. Law. Section IV. Finno-Ugric literature study.
Section V. Finno-Ugric languages: Education. Theory and methods of teaching.
Section VI. Finno-Ugric youth initiatives (poster presentations).
Arrival of participants – morning of May 14, 2009. Departure – evening of May 16, 2009.

Conference participants of non-Russian citizenship should attach to the application form a copy of the passport.
In case you need visa support, please, take into consideration:
– Your passport should be valid for 3 months after the date of visa expiry;
– It takes 20-30 working days to get a visa in Russian Consulates abroad.

It is planned to publish a collection of conference presentations’ abstracts before the
IFUSCO. All abstracts should be submitted till April 10, 2009 via e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.

Organizing committee cannot guarantee that abstracts submitted after the deadline will be included into the collection.
Requirements to abstracts:
Volume – up to 1,5 pages (not more than 2000 signs) in Microsoft Word, font – Times New Roman, font size – 14, interval – 1,5. Margin: top – 20 mm, bottom – 20 mm, left – 30 mm, right – 15 mm. In the first line on the right indicate the last name and initials of the author with small letters of bold face, under the last name in brackets write the educational institution and the city. The title of the article should be centralized and typed with capital letters of bold face.
Attention! In case your presentation is in made in one of the Finno-Ugric languages the abstract should be submitted in Russian with short summary in the English language. Russian presentations should be accompanied with a short summary in English.
Participation fee – 3000 rubles for foreign participants, 1500 rubles – for Russian citizens. Yu can pay organization fee in the accountant office of the “Community of nations of Karelia” on May 14 2009. Please, don’t forget to take a copy of passport, certificate of pension insurance and personal tax-payer’s certificate. Organization fee covers expenses connected with publication of abstracts collection, and partially accommodation and board.
Transportation expenses are covered by the sending organization.
Decision on the place and dates of the following XXVI International conference for students on Finno-Ugric studies IFUSCO-2010 will be made in Petrozavodsk on May 16, 2009. At the closing plenary session, based on the results of analysis of suggestions (applications, projects) submitted by countries and regions, interested in organization of the next XXVI conference IFUSCO. Such projects should be made in the form of power point presentations or classical reports.
