The reason was the posting of news about the action in memory of the Udmurt scientist Albert Razin, who committed self-immolation.
Roskomnadzor blocked the MariUver website on July 5, which provides information about the Mari and the Finno-Ugric world. This is reported by the edition “Idel.Реалии”.
“Roskomnadzor has blocked my website. Reason: “When you click on the link https://mariuver.com/2020/09/10/mari-pocht-razin/, a page of the MariUver website opens where the user Idel. Albert Razin”, which contains information on a possible method of committing suicide,” wrote its administrator, founder of the site, Vasli Nikolajev, in the site’s Facebook page. He said that he removed the material from MariUver and sent a notification to Roskomnadzor by e-mail.
The notification received by Nikolaev says that the blocking was made after MariUver was entered into the register of sites containing information prohibited for distribution in the Russian Federation. In turn, the inclusion in the register was made in accordance with part 7 of article 15.1 of the Federal law “On information, information technologies and information protection” and the decision adopted on January 14, 2021 by Rospotrebnadzor, “due to the fact that the page of the site contains information on how to suicide, calls to commit suicide.”
One of the latest posts in the public MariUver focuses on the possible selectivity of the controlling Russian government agencies. He cites a link to the story of the Novosibirsk State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (broadcasted on the air of “Russia 1” and “Russia 24”), which tells about an attempt of self-arson committed by an elderly Novosibirsk citizen.
“Why does Roskomnadzor not block vesti.ru, but only Idel.Realii and my site MariUver for reprinting from there?” – the administrator of the group in social networks asks.
In June, Vasli Nikolajev sent proposals to change the rules and procedure for the election of delegates to the world congresses of the Finno-Ugric peoples (the last of which took place in mid-June in Estonian Tartu; the pro-government representatives of the Russian Finno-Ugrians – the AFUN organization, refused to participate in the congress under the pretext of imposing Western Finno-Ugrians on the problematic agenda, which consists in discussing the deplorable situation of the Russian Finno-Ugrians).
Nikolaev drew attention to the fact that the All-Mari Congress, which elects Mari delegates to participate in the congresses, is completely controlled by officials, and is not an independent representative body of the entire Mari people. A similar situation, according to Nikolaev, is with the Erzyans, Mokshans and Udmurts.
“I proposed to the World Congress and the Advisory Committee to grant the right to elect delegates to individual Mari public organizations, for example, there are two Mari societies in Estonia. There is a “Marij Ushem” in Mari El, he could propose his candidates, or he could gather a forum of independent Mari organizations and choose delegates to the World Congress there,” suggested the administrator of the MariUver website.
In the early 2000s, the MariUver website was the only Internet resource that provided alternative official information about the situation in the Republic of Mari El. In 2004-2007, Internet providers blocked it on the territory of the republic.
