Plans are underway for Russian President Dmitri Medvedev’s first formal visit to Finland.
President Tarja Halonen’s office confirms the visit. However her office says the exact timing of the visit remains undetermined. According to information obtained by YLE, the visit will likely occur this spring.
Halonen extended the invitaion to Medvedev last summer when both presidents met at the World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Hanti-Mansisk in western Siberia.
Russia’s Premier Vladimir Putin is also expected in Finland this spring for the bi-annual meeting of the Finnish and Russian premiers.
